Top shelf spirits are those that are truly of exceptional quality and fetch the highest prices. Which are the most expensive Patron varieties? Read on to learn more about the brand and their absolute finest bottles.
What Is Patron?
Patron is a brand of tequila that is sold throughout the world. As of 2014, Patron was the best selling tequila in the United States and available in nine different varieties. Unlike many other legendary producers of spirits, Patron does not have a long history. The first bottles were produced during the early 1990s by a distillery called 7 Leguas owned by Saint Maarten’s Spirit Company. Today, Patron is produced by The Patron Spirits Company, which is based in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Why Is Patron Expensive?
Patron tequila is expensive due to the combined effects of its reputation, popularity, taste, quality and packaging. The bottle in particular setts Patron apart from other brands of tequila on the market. Each of the most expensive Patron varieties is placed in a handmade glass bottle that is uniquely engineered to preserve and maximize the flavors of the tequila.
The tequila is also made from what is considered the best type of agave for spirit distilling, Blue Weber Agave. The agave is grown in the world’s best region for agave production in Jalisco, Mexico. The agave is aged for 6 to 7 years and then is hand harvested by specially trained workers that use a hand tool to remove the heart or piña of the agave.
Patron also uses a unique process to produce tequila. First, the agave is steamed for 79 hours, much longer than the process used by many other brands. Instead of being processed with machinery, traditional stone grinding tools are used to extract the essences of the agave. The filtering process used is state of the art and results in a smooth, easy to drink spirit.
